Charlotte Nip, Acne Scars

At the end of her acknowledgements, Vancouver-based poet Charlotte Nip calls out: “many of these poems were inspired by exes who didn’t believe in my writing, did you think I’d listen?” And if that gets your feminist senses buzzin’, you gotta check out the coolness, bravery, and general badassery in this chapbook debut. Acne Scars is equal parts gassing-yourself-up-in-the-mirror and slipping-a-small-wildflower-in-your-pocket-to-save-for-later. It’s about insecurity, heartbreak, body image, loneliness, and, most of all, about growing up. It is at turns rocking&riotous and quiet&contemplative and it’ll make you extra glad that Nip didn’t listen to those exes. ‘Cuz yeah, we got a few exes like that, too…

Printed in a limited run of seventy-five copies at Product Photo in Toronto, this chapbook is written by Charlotte Nip. Typeset by Dani Spinosa with a cover image and design by Ashley Grafe, who is also, incidentally, a girlboss badass.
